My Newest Obsession

My newest obsession-- The Paradise from BBC. Admittedly many of my obsessions come from BBC-- like North and South and the Toby Stephens version of Jane Eyre and Under the Greenwood Tree. In fact I become easily obsessed with any movie or book set in 19th century Europe-- hence my newest obsession -- The Paradise. Sadly, over here in America, we can’t see season 2 yet and I’m dying to watch it. And so I’m asking my friends across the pond-- how was season 2? Was it as awesome as season 1? Is Moray still “utterly adorable”?

New Paradise Cover

Paradise is currently available for $.99

Book Description:

A deceitful trick by a coworker slash lover leaves Jayden Clark looking for a new job and vowing to never again engage in a relationship with a workmate. Of course her promise never mentioned a boss.

When Jayden accepts the position of girl Friday for Regent Realty, she knows she is overqualified, but a month in Tahiti, and Nick Regent, the six-foot-four, incredibly appealing owner of the company, make the job too tempting to pass up.

She flies to the island, knowing full well that she is at risk of losing her heart, but never could she have predicted the danger she would face in paradise.

Excerpt:

"I gasped as his fingers grabbed the fabric of my shirt. He lifted it over my head and dropped it on the floor. I stood in front of his hungry gaze wearing only a flimsy pair of thong underwear.  A warm, salty breeze wafted through the open window, tickling my naked skin pushing my already erect nipples tighter still.

The insatiable look in his pale green eyes sent a shiver through me. Then he reached for my hands. He faced me towards the wall of my room and lifted my hands above my head. He held my wrists as my palms pressed against the cool plaster of the wall."

Clutch Cover Reveal

Clutch (Custom Culture #2)

Book description:

Clutch (Custom Culture, 2)

When Taylor Flinn’s parents shipped her off to an aunt for her last year of high school, James “Clutch” Mason had convinced himself it was for the best. Taylor, the wild, impulsive and far-too-appealing seventeen-year-old had been driving him nuts. Her school girl crush on him had been the last thing he needed. Now he had time to concentrate on his booming classic car part business, his new found love-- drag racing, and keeping his twenty-year-old brother Barrett out of trouble.

But when Taylor returns from her aunt’s more grown up, utterly seductive, and attached to another guy, Clutch realizes that the only thing he ever needed or wanted was Taylor Flinn.

Teaser:

She came around the corner, unexpectedly and like a hurricane of stars. My mind went completely blank. I hung up and stuck the phone in my pocket.
Taylor’s long lashes curtained her smooth cheeks as she dropped her gaze.

The adrenaline rush left behind from getting my hands on a sixty-five Shelby morphed into an explosion of every emotion I’d ever felt. I lunged forward and grabbed her hand. She gasped as I dragged her around the back of the building. I pressed her up against the bricks and stared down at her.

I'm also hosting a giveaway along with the reveal. You can enter to win a $15 Amazon gift card as well as 5 ebook copies of Clutch. The Contest will run from November 2 (12:00 am)- November 5 (12:00 am).

The Cover Dilemma

My daughter, Nikki, who is my editor, book formatter, and cover designer made a gorgeous cover for my new book, Freefall. The story has to do with a picture of a pinup girl that the hero keeps in his wallet. It is a big part of the story, along with vintage cars and tattoos. Nikki came up with the concept for the cover, and I loved it. It was definitely different than any cover I’d seen, and it fit the story perfectly. Unfortunately, the cover seemed to give people the impression that the story takes place in the 1940’s. It is definitely a contemporary, and so we decided to replace the cover with an image that fit the story but that looked contemporary. Most people who read my books know that I write historical stories along with contemporary. I love historical stories. In fact most of the books I read are historical. But Freefall is contemporary, and I don’t want to confuse readers.

Here is the new cover:

Freefall Cover Reveal!

A big thanks to everyone who participated in today's cover reveal!

Book Description:

After leaving high school, with a hard won diploma and the title of most likely to break hearts, Alexander “Nix” Pierce has left his wild, out of control years mostly behind him. A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he’s never met, Nix’s life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.

Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn’t spoken one word. Up until now she didn’t care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn’t hear her words if she could speak. But when Lincoln insists she get a tattoo to cover up a scar on her side, Scotlyn meets the artist, Nix Pierce. And now she longs for her voice. Now she has found someone who will hear her.

Teaser:

I could see Nix swallow beneath the collar of his t-shirt. For what seemed like the hundredth time, he rearranged stuff on his tray, and it seemed he had a hard time looking at me.
I’d pushed it too far. I was being way to forward with him, but I couldn’t seem to stop myself. I was not practiced at flirting, and it seemed that I’d been reading his thoughts all wrong. In my state of distress from the car ride, I’d forgotten to take off my sweatshirt. Feeling like a fool for rubbing my foot so suggestively up his leg, I hopped off the table and walked over to the hook on the wall. Now I wanted to get this done and fast.
I unzipped my sweatshirt and slipped it off my shoulders. As I reached up to hang it on the hook, Nix’s stool slid across the floor, and before I could lower my hands, his arms snaked around my waist, and he pulled my back against his hard chest.

New Adult 'Strangely Normal' Cover Reveal!

I'm very excited to share the cover for my upcoming release,
Strangely Normal, with you!
What do you think?

Strangely Normal will be available May 15, 2013

Here's a description:

A unique summer job lands eighteen-year-old Eden Saxon into a lifestyle completely different than her own. She becomes a companion for nineteen-year-old Finley King, the daughter of a rock legend. Finley suffers from severe anxiety, and her father fears her being alone. Eden leaves her loving, but wildly dysfunctional, parents and dreary apartment and enters a world where no luxury is overlooked. She instantly adores Finley and her charming, quirky personality. The whole situation has only one flaw– Finley’s older brother, Jude. Jude King is cocky, arrogant and irritating. Unfortunately, he’s also completely irresistible.
Eden realizes she’s underestimated the depth of Finley’s problems, and suddenly her dream job turns out to be a lot more than she’d expected. Eden soon finds herself in over her head . . . and her heart.
And a short teaser for your enjoyment ;)
He placed down his pencil and walked across the floor toward me. The crackling energy I’d felt between us the night before when he’d stood over my bed returned now and grew with hot intensity as the space between us disappeared. I was not the only one noticing the sudden charge in the atmosphere between us. He stopped directly in front of me, and even with loud music bouncing off the walls, I could hear the unnaturally fast rhythm of his breathing.
He hesitated a moment and then his hand came up slowly and brushed the hair off my face. His fingertips had only grazed my cheek, but I felt the sensation of his touch through my entire body. He looked back at me as if he’d smoothed his hands over every inch of my skin. The air between us heated and what had started out as a casual session between an artist and his subject had somehow erupted into something completely different.

Book Description:

As false accusations of witchcraft consume Salem Village, eighteen-year-old Poppy Seabrooke, a true witch, is content to stay away from the hysteria and more importantly from the relentless advances of Angus Wolfe, a powerful warlock masquerading as Salem’s pastor. When Poppy uses her magic to help a young boy, she is arrested. Angus is the only person who can help her, but, in return, she must promise her hand in marriage. In desperation, Poppy’s grandmother sends her two hundred years into the future to hide. Poppy finds herself years from home in the middle of a strange place called Montana where rooms light up without candles or sorcery, steam puffing dragons roar across fields on tracks, and cows sprout horns as long as tree trunks. And while Poppy hides from the man who turns her heart cold as ice, she discovers the man who can set it on fire.

Cade Tanner has always lived fast and hard, and he prefers it that way. The last thing he needs is a girl to distract him from running the cattle ranch his father left him. But Poppy, the sweetly innocent beauty with the soft smile and dark eyes, who seemingly fell from the sky, is tough to ignore. But Cade soon finds that falling for Poppy comes with a dangerous price.

The Newest Member of the Family

This is Sophie, also known in intimate circles as Sophie Bear, Sophie Bean and Man Hands (after the Seinfeld episode where Jerry was dating the pretty girl with large manly hands) Only for Sophie it should technically be Man Paws. Sophie is the fifth and, as I've assured both my husband and the family cat, final member of our doggie pack. I was heading into the local feed store to buy hay for my goats and a pen filled with rescued dogs sat at the front of the store. I stopped at the pen to say hello and give them all words of encouragement while reminding myself that I already had four dogs and that five would be crazy and that the husband would have me committed when Sophie crawled out from under a dog house in the pen. Talk about knowing how to make a dramatic entrance. She walked straight up to the front of the cage and stared up at me with those intelligent brown eyes that seemed to be saying “It’s about time you got here.” I thought ‘well maybe five wouldn't be too crazy’.

The phone call for breaking the news to my husband was short - “Honey, before I tell you this, just remember how much you love me.” “Woman, did you bring home another dog?” “Sort of.” “We don’t need another dog.” “Nope, but she needed us.” End of conversation.

I’m happy to say that Sophie has made a wonderful transition into the family. She has discovered that she is a perfect fit for the crook of my knees when we are all tucked in bed at night.
One day my husband reminded me that “you can’t save them all.”
And, of course, he’s right. But I’m giving it one hell of a try.
